As a candidate for the Democratic Presidential Nomination, Barack Obama has created a big impact around the country. Speaking about issues, such as, the genocide in Darfur, the poverty caused by Katrina, and the future of our politics, Obama manages to run his campaign while being part of committees. He is a part of the Veteran Affairs Committee and has already managed to pass a law in order to regain trust in Government by giving the public a chance to see how every dollar of their tax money is being spent. As a family man of two daughters, Obama is on one of the leading candidates for the 2008 presidential election.

con piece on school uniform.

Miami Beach Senior High school’s new uniform policy has caused many to look at the negative side of having a school uniform. Although teachers and parents see this opportunity as a positive way to influence good discipline and order in the school environment, they fail to see that they take away the opportunity for students to dress in their own unique style. Each student expresses themselves differently, therefore, style is very important in order to let students express themselves through the way they dress.

Placing a mandatory school uniform is not always a positive thing. It takes away the little bit of freedom students have in the school environment. Dressing differently allows students to express themselves by wearing unique clothing. It makes the school look and feel diverse, not to mention, takes away the boring feel of having everyone look alike by wearing the same thing. Students already have enough rules to keep up with, this mandatory uniform will only create another rule to follow. It would also  make the school environment seem dull and boring because everyone would look the same, which makes students lack originality. Teachers, as well as, parents always encourage students to be original and creative. They don’t realize that students like to dress differently because it allows them to look different and feel unique. The school will lack the creativity it yearns and encourages students to have.

It is important to consider the opinion of students when trying to implement a mandatory school uniform to a school that has not had a uniform. The majority of students would prefer not to have a uniform because they like to dress differently and feel like they can be unique, in return,  they can feel better about going to school. Not implementing a school uniform will also cause less trouble for administration because they wont have to worry about any students coming to school without a uniform. They have enough to worry about with tardies to school. Checking every students and tracking down whoever is not wearing a uniform will create a more stressful job for the administration.

There are many factors that teachers, staff, and parents don’t consider when trying to implement a mandatory school uniform. The school will lack originality and rob students of expressing themselves through what they wear.

Reflection Piece

This end of the year quarter has been very busy. I have managed to write my first article successfully and have now written my second one. I did not find it very hard because I had already written my first piece as a pro piece for school uniforms. I have kept in good communication with my staff writers although I had some plagiarism going on but we managed to work it out and fix it. They have been very diligent with their work and have kept with their deadlines. I have also managed to do all my assignments and have edit all the opinion section pieces to best of my abilities. I would consider this year another success although we had some trouble with raising the money, we did as much as we could and delivered good issues. There is always progress that could be made but I am sure things will be better next year along with new staff writers. It’s the end of the year now and I feel that it could have gone worst so I am very happy that I had the opportunity to be a member and part of the class this year. I hope to still write for the Beachcomber as a college student and keep the newspaper alive.
